We have written about creating window boxes and wreaths. Then, our blog focused on redoing your home’s front door/ replacing your storm door. Both of these blog pieces were inspired by tips from the first section of our article on how to easily improve your curb appeal: the exterior of your home.
Now, we are going to dive deeper into the rest of the tips from that section!
Add Colorful Seating/Accessories to Your Porch
You can find a ton of unique ideas for decorating your porch online or on Pinterest. By spending some time looking at what others have done, and in exploring such, you will feel invigorated to work on your own front entranceway!
Some people create the look of an outdoor gathering space or a brunch spot on their front porch- equipping a table, chairs, and maybe even some rocking chairs. This creates a welcoming, yet useful area. You may even use meticulously placed bushes and hedges in order to close off this space, creating privacy for you and your guests who use it.
Those who don’t have much porch space to use and decorate, use plants to create a whimsical and inviting atmosphere- and there’s no such thing as layering too many plants, if you’re willing to take the time to keep them alive and healthy! Hanging cascading plants can especially add to the beauty of your home’s entranceway.
For a more elegant and organized look, you may use the rule of symmetry by putting the same plants, or stately planters, on either side of the door to create a picturesque front doorway.
You may decide to choose your favorite color pairings and stick within those when shopping for décor if you want your front porch to look overall cohesive. But don’t be afraid to play with mixing and matching colors, textures, and bold fabrics- this can make your home look exciting and personalized!

Or, depending on your own aesthetic, home, and surrounding garden, you may even want to go for a sophisticated black, white, and grey color scheme.
And while layering on the decorations, accessories, and statement pieces adds life to your environment, be sure to do so while avoiding unnecessary and obstructive clutter.
If your inspired to renovate or rebuild your porch, you should consider playing with geometry. Some have gone for a unique shaped architecture for their porch, such as octagonal or round, rather than settling for the usual square or rectangular shape.
And be sure to explore the type of porch designs and materials you can use- for example, a more rustic look can be made with dark wooden paneling, and the addition of a stone design integrated into it can create an old-fashioned and timely aesthetic.
If you have a ceiling on your porch, you may even decide to give it a fresh coat of paint to match your entranceway’s new look.
And if you have the views or exciting architecture, be sure to highlight them rather than obstruct them when choosing how to decorate or build your porch!
Other Outdoor Embellishments
If you’re going the building and renovating route, the addition of a fence, prefab trellis, benches, arbor, fence, or archway to the exterior of your home can further add to the atmosphere or aesthetic you are going for.
Even more, good lighting is important to the homey feeling of your front porch, so the addition of lights and lanterns not only add safety to your front doorway at night, but adds to the atmosphere.
You can even come across a ton of unique outdoor/exterior decorations if you look for them in home-good stores, online stores, or while thrifting, if you want to make a day out of exploring it all!
Symmetry
And as mentioned for your porch earlier, feel free to play with symmetry all throughout your home’s exterior in order to further create a picture-perfect scene.
With these tips, along with those from our last few blogs on upgrading your curb appeal, you can create a home exterior that any visitor or neighbor will envy!
