Interview with REALTOR® Martha Grinnell

Martha Grinnell, REALTOR®, grew up in Northampton Massachusetts and stayed close, obtaining her BS from Springfield College and MS from Smith College. She spent 8 years of her life racing as a professional triathlete, 5 years as a middle and high school teacher and 18 years as the founder of her own endurance athlete consulting and coaching service. Transitioning her consulting skills to the real estate industry felt like a natural fit for her.

Martha’s deep, local roots, as well as her love and appreciation for all that western, Massachusetts has to offer, allows her to provide her clients a personalized experience.  She can point them to places of interest, connect them with a painter, dentist, contractor, and even the best local spot to buy a loaf of bread or homemade pie! Approachable, patient, professional and highly responsive bests describe what to expect when working with Martha.

She is highly committed to leading her clients through each step of the buying or selling process, confidently negotiating on their behalf, and achieving their desired goals. Her exceptional service continues long after the initial transaction to ensure that her buyers and sellers are content. In an ever-changing market, she understands the importance of consistently providing her clients the most up-to-date information necessary for them to make confident decisions.

Five College Realtors: Realtor Martha Grinnell

What is your motto? Take care of yourself, so you can take care of others.

What are you currently reading? The Wedding People by Alison Espach.

Which living person do you most admire? My two siblings, both of whom have taken leaps in life resulting in personal growth.

How do you measure success? I base my success on the experience others have while working together.

What do you do to relax? Morning walks, playing the guitar and singing.

What do you consider your greatest achievement? One of my greatest achievements was the 8 years I travelled the world and country, racing as a professional triathlete. I wanted to step to the line with the best athletes in the sport.  It was intense and hard, yet an amazing period of growth.

If someone asked you for advice on getting into business, what advice would you tell them? Be prepared to work very hard, to expect the unexpected, and to learn how to adapt.

What are your favorite parts about living in the Five College Area? I love the access to trails, mountains and lakes. I appreciate the small towns and feeling so connected with the community. I'm also so grateful to have lived in this area my whole life.

What are you currently streaming / watching? White Lotus, The Voice.

Did you have a turning point in your life or career? Yes, transitioning into real estate was a significant career decision for me, especially after spending many years coaching endurance athletes. I come from a family where half pursued careers in teaching and the other half in business. Navigating the integration and balance of skills from both worlds has been a rewarding challenge.

What do you like best about being in real estate? There is nothing better than when a client happily gets to the finish line and closes on their home. It's an amazing feeling and celebration. I also appreciate the relationships I develop with clients.

What are some of your favorite movies or shows? Movies - The Notebook, Crash, The Family Stone.

What is your favorite musician / band? James Taylor, 10,000 Maniacs.

What do you value most in a friend? Honesty, ability to express vulnerabilities, always open to listening.
