We have written about creating window boxes and wreaths, on redoing your home’s front door/ replacing your storm door, and improving your home’s entranceway. All of these blogs went into deeper detail on the tips we shared from our article on how to easily improve your curb appeal’s first section: the exterior of your home.
Now, we are going to finish discussing the fine details of that first section’s tips!
Upgrade Your Garage Door
Again, if you’re up for the renovations, a new and less dinged-up garage door can further improve your home’s curb appeal, especially since garages can take up to 30% of your home’s exterior on average. If you haven’t shopped for a new garage door before, you’ll be excited to hear that there is actually a lot to choose from and consider when doing so.
It’s important that you take your time to look at your options, and consider all the factors that go into it that you can. Getting an insulated garage can save homeowners around 20% on annual heating and cooling costs.
Picking a style will probably take the most time and consideration, as there are many: overlay carriage house garages,
planked and wooden garages,
and windowed garages- to name some.
Further, there are many hardware options. A tip if you can’t decide on your garage door’s style is to match your door to your home’s architectural heritage.
Further, who ever said a garage has to just be white? Feel free to explore your creativity when deciding on a color, while also considering the primary color of your house, if you want it to be the same color as your front door, and what your chosen color looks like during variations of a day’s lighting.
You can even decide how your garage opens, which may be especially important depending on the type of style you settle on. Garage doors can swing open; can open sectionally, with horizontal panels that move and stack vertically; can open up and over the garage, creating a canopy when opened; it can retract up and over the door, fully entering the garage; it could roll open, with a set of rolling metal slats; or it could swing outwards open on hinges.
Power Wash the Exterior of Your Home
A routine cleaning of your home’s exterior, including the roof, does great things to a home.
A power washer can easily be rented online or from a nearby home improvement center if you do not already own one, or know someone who can lend you one. It is recommended that houses be pressure washed at least once a year (sometime between March and November) in order to remove dirt, bird droppings, and ugly stains, while also keeping the exterior of your home from deteriorating faster.
You may find more comprehensive steps to follow when power washing your home on Youtube or online, if you want to get the most from your work.
